Your research data (e.g. lab measurements, field notes, microscope images) is a valuable part of your research.
An increasing number of publishers and funding bodies are requesting the research data underlying a publication or project is made available, to verify the results of research and promote further sharing and re-use of the data where possible.
Before using data from a repository, or uploading data, check the restrictions (if any) for re-use of the data. Some repositories have a uniform policy for all their data, while others have different restrictions for different data.
Even when data is freely accessible there may be restrictions on how it can be used (e.g. non-commercial use only).
