Grey literature

Grey literature is information which has been published informally or non-commercially, or remains unpublished.

It is not usually peer-reviewed, but can be good, reliable information.  It can appear in many forms, including government or technical reports, discussion papers, statistics, conference proceedings, policy documents.

Grey literature can be difficult to locate, however search engines (particularly subject specific search engines) and grey literature reports and databases can help to uncover much of this information.

The Grey Literature Wiki (link opens a new window) provides a detailed overview.
