Communications and Media: Find books, journals, music

Using the Library 'Search' retrieve books, DVD's, music, journal articles and other resources.

The Library Search is a good place to start searching for journal articles, but you should also use the Library's Databases for more comprehensive searching. See the Tab in this guide - 'Databases and journal articles'.

Search  is available from the Library tab at the top of your portal 

so that you can place holds on books at other campuses, renew books and save searches

  • use * to truncate terms eg commincat* will retrieve books etc. on communicate and communication and communicating
  • Use inverted commas " " for phrases eg "social networks" "digital media"
  • Use the left hand options to limit your search to books, journals, e-resources etc or by date or in a specific library
  • use OR between alternative terms/synonyms and encase them in brackets

This search will find books, journal articles etc. with either the term self image or identity combined with the term facebook

If the book is not available online use the 'Get it' tab to see where it is held. Click on the 'Request' tab to have it delivered to your preferred branch library if the item is not located in the library that you regularly use.
