Finding books in the Monash University Library collection

Check if a book is available by searching for its record in Search.

For help using Search, visit the Library Search guide or see a librarian at a drop-in session.

Quick tips:

  • Use the advanced search page to restrict your search to books
    • Select "Books" in the "Material type" box on the right
  • To find a specific book enter its title, author, and year of publication
    • Don't copy and paste a whole reference
  • To find books about a topic use key words or phrases which describe the topic

Finding books on the shelves

To find a book on the shelf:

  • Find it in Search and look at the "Get it" tab.
  • If a copy is available, write down its library, collection and call number
    • e.g.: "Hargrave-Andrew Library, General Collection, 621.4021 C395T 2011"
  • Go to the library and find the right collection and follow the call numbers until you find your book
  • If you need help, ask library staff

If there are no copies available, try requesting a book instead.

Accessing ebooks

Find the record in Search, click on the "View it" tab, and follow the link.

  • The library has ebooks from several different providers. How you view, download and print depends on the provider
  • Some ebooks allow a limited number of simultaneous users
  • Check the ebooks library guide for more details

Requesting a book

You can request that a book be placed on hold through Search. You should receive an email when your book has arrived.

  • Click the "Sign in" link in the top right of the screen
  • Sign in with your Monash username and password
  • Find the book you want
  • Use the "Request" option at the top of the "Get it" tab
