Tips from the MLA Handbook

The following examples are based on more detailed information in:

Modern Language Association of America. MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. 7th ed. New York: Mod. Lang. Assn., 2009, Print.
See the handbook p.144 (5.4.7)

Give the reviewer’s name and the title of the review (if any).
Write Rev. of (neither italicized nor enclosed in quotation marks), the title of the work reviewed, a comma, the word by, and the name of the author. If the work of someone other than an author—say, an editor, a translator, or a director—is under review, use the appropriate abbreviation, such as ed., trans., or dir., instead of by.
For a review of a performance, add pertinent information about the production. For example, name of theatre or venue and city or place of perfromance.
