Rare Books: Request

How to request items for use


  • Rare Books are held in closed storage and need to be pre-ordered. Material is collected twice daily at 10am and 2pm.
  • If you are a member of the Monash community, please request items through Search. Simply sign in to your library account, find the item you wish to view, select "Get it", then select "Request". You will receive an email when your items are ready to be viewed in the Special Collections Reading Room.
  • If you are a member of the public or if you have any problems requesting items online, please call us on 9905 2689 to organise the material you would like to view or email your requests to
  • If large numbers of items or collections of material are required, please discuss with the Rare Books librarians.​
  • All Rare and closed Special Collections materials must be consulted in the Special Collections Reading Room only.​
  • All borrowed items must be returned to staff upon leaving the room. If material is required for further study, please let staff know and these will be set aside for you.
