Live-streaming

View the live stream­

  1. Navigate to your Moodle unit and go to lecture recordings link.

The live class appears with a LIVE badge next to the class name. If the class is happening now, the LIVE badge is green and there is a green dot to the left of the class name.

  1. Click the class name to enter the classroom.
  2. Click Show Live-stream (it will not autoplay)

The classroom toolbar appears across the top of the screen, allowing you to:

Tips:

  • If viewing the Live-stream on a mobile device: it automatically buffers 40 seconds of the stream to ensure smooth playback. This means you may experience a delay in the start of the stream, and that your view will lag anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute behind the real-time action.
  • Viewing Live-streams is not supported on Android devices.

 

Syncing during Live-streams

Occasionally Echo will experience lag during live-streams and the two screens will become out of sync.

To re-sync both screens, click the skip icon.

Ask questions during a live-stream

For Live-streaming classes, the Questions panel appears by default

  1. Enter text into the New question textbox
  2. Click the paperclip icon to include an attachment with your question.
  3. Select whether to Reference class content with the question. This simply means that the classroom presentation will synch to the question when another user selects it.
  4. Enable the Post anonymously slider to post the question without your name. Instructors can see the authors of all posts; students cannot.
  5. Click POST QUESTION.

Note: The Lecture Capture Q&A feature is primarily used during live-streaming sessions. If you are viewing a pre-recorded session, you can still use the Q&A to ask questions, however your lecturer may not respond promptly to them. It is recommended that you post your questions to your Moodle unit forum instead.

 

To view classroom discussions

  1. In the classroom toolbar, click the Discussions icon to open the Discussions panel.

  1. Click the question/post you want to respond to.
  2. Click RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION.
  3. Enter your response in the text box.
  4. Click the paperclip icon to include an attachment with your response (optional).
  5. Enable the Post anonymously slider to post your response without your name. Instructors can see the authors of all posts; students cannot.
  6. Click POST.

View the live stream

Please access Live Streaming from the relevant folder, OR from the Panopto block.

  1. Navigate to your Moodle unit.
  2. Locate the live stream recording folder. The location of this link may vary slightly, depending on your unit's configuration.
  3. In Arts units it will be in the section: Unit Resources
  4. In Buseco units it will be in the section: Unit Material
  5. In Education and FIT units it will be in the section: Unit Information
  6. In Engineering units, it will be in the General section
  7. In MNHS units it will be in the section: Unit Information & Links to Lecture recordings or live stream
  8. In Science units, it will be in the section: Resources
  9. Once the live stream starts, the folder is refreshed automatically and includes the latest live stream video.
  10. Click the new link.

Note: By default, the latest live stream video can be found at the top of the page.

 

Using the playhead

The playhead can be found at the bottom of the session.

play button Play button - allows you to Play and Pause the session at any time.
 rewind button Rewind button - allows you to rewind the session every 10 seconds.
 play bar The scrubber allows you to scroll through the video. You can drag the circle to rewind or move forward to real time.

LIVE button - Jump right back to the real time moment of the session

 

Ask questions during a live stream

While viewing the live broadcast,

  1. Click the Discussion tab.
  2. Type your question or comments in the field.
  3. Press Enter.
