Standards

What are standards?

Standards are documents, developed by standards organisation bodies, that provide nationally- and/or internationally-recognised specifications, procedures, and guidelines for a variety of processes. Standards organisation bodies regularly review and update standards to ensure they contribute to a safe, consistent, and reliable environment.

What standards can you access through the library?

Monash University Australia staff and students can access all Australian Standards (AS) online, as well as certain standards from other standards organisation bodies - including those produced by ASTM International (ASTM), British Standards (BS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). The Hargrave-Andrew Library holds some standards in physical/print format.

Generally, standards are not listed individually in Library Search – instead, check the relevant standards database in the Standards databases section.

If you are a HDR student or staff member from any Faculty or Institute who requires access to a standard that is not part of our collection, we may be able to arrange this for you. To submit your request:

1. Sign into Library Search

2. Choose Request Library Purchase (top menu bar, under Show more ... )

3. Complete and submit the request form.
