The Monash libraries use the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme to organise books and journals. The most efficient way to locate material in the library is to use Search (the library catalogue), however the following may be useful as a guide when browsing the shelves.

Library of Congress Subject Headings

When searching for information a great way to search for specific topics is to use the Library of Congress Subject Headings. Subject Headings are used by a huge selection of libraries/archives and databases. They are used to organise resources by topic and allow you to perform more precise searches, narrowing your results to relevant information. Simply use the Subject Headings as the keywords for your search. 

Some examples for Italian Subject areas include:
