Library Search (original): Specific item search

Help with using Search, the Library's discovery platform

Citation search

The Citation search is a useful tool to pin point the exact item(s) you might be looking for in Library Search. These items can include:

  • Journals
  • Articles
  • Books

citation search

Fill in the details about the item using the Citation Linker form and choose Go. You will be taken to a screen similar to other items detail pages. Use the View It or Get It tab on the page to access the items online or check their availabilities.

If the item is not available online, signing in to Search will allow you to quickly and easily submit a Document Delivery request populated with the details (eligible users only). The more detail you can provide about a particular item the more successful the citation linking will be.

Tips for precise item search

Journal

  • If you are searching for a journal title, use the title (exact title preferred) or ISSN of the journal or both.
  • For short, generic title names like Science, add the ISSN, if known.
  • Add "year" to the Date (YYYY-MM-DD) may help if ISSN is not known.
  • If more source details (vol, issue) are entered in addition to the above, the citation linker may provide direct link(s) to the article if the Library has it.
  • If DOI of a citation is known (e.g. 10.1016/j.jada.2010.10.053), enter it in the DOI box. The citation linker will take you to full text link if the Library holds it. No other details needed in this search.

Article

  • Article title on its own may not be useful. Adding source details (journal titles, ISSN, year) works better. Note: publication date should be entered in the Date (YYYY-MM-DD).
  • If DOI of a citation is known, enter it in the DOI box. The citation linker will take you to full text link if the Library holds it. No other details needed in this search.

Books

  • Exact Book title is preferred.
  • ISBN, if known, will be useful.
  • Add "year" to the Date (YYYY-MM-DD) may also help
