Tips

  • The fourth example refers to a specific version of a film. In this example, the original release date has been placed between the film title and director.
  • If focusing on the performances of the actors, place a comma after the director’s name, then the words “performances by” - see the third example.
  • The version of the film viewed is placed after the distributor.

Tips

  • If the review is published on a website and not in a journal, omit that portion of the citation and insert the website's URL.

  • ​Databases contain many articles from a range of journals. In the example above, the name of the journal is Sight & Sound, and it can be found in the database ProQuest. In most instances, you will access a journal article through an online database, although you can also access them directly through the journal's homepage.

  • If database and/or URL are not available, omit that portion of the citation.

Tips

  • If the show is discussed in a general way, without focusing on an individual's contribution, do not cite an author, but instead start the reference with the title of the episode (as demonstrated above).

  • If the episode does not have a season or episode number, simply omit the information.

  • Include disc number, if applicable.
