Citing and referencing: Figures & Tables (inc. Images)

Figures

Rule:

Fig. #. Caption of figure. (x) Caption of part (if applicable). (x) Caption of part (if applicable). [#]

Example:

Fig. 4. Intercomplex crosstalk characteristics. (a) Electrode transmission. (b) Interelectrode crosstalk. [1]

Guidelines:

Always place the Figure title/caption below the figure

The Figure, and Figure title/captions must be centre-justified

When referring to multiple parts of figures: Use the singular Fig., not Figs. (e.g. Fig. 4(a) and 4(b)).

If you adapt, amend, or otherwise modify the figure, indicate this at the end of your caption

Images

Note: To reference images, follow the guidelines for Figures (above), including only the relevant/available information.

Rule:

Example:

Fig. 8. 5G Wireless tower. Adapted from [2]

Guidelines:

Always place the Image title/caption below the image

If you adapt, amend, or otherwise modify the image, indicate this at the end of your caption

Tables

Rule:

TABLE # (in Roman numerals)
Text of Caption. (a) Text of Part A Caption. (b) Text of Part B Caption [#]

Example:

TABLE IX
Optimal Wavelength as a Function of Polarizer Angle. (a) Wavelength for External Cavity. (b) Estimated Wavelength for Laser Diode [2]

Guidelines:

Always place the table title/caption above the table

The Table, and Table title/captions must be centre-justified

​When referring to multiple parts of tables: Use the singular Table, not Tables. (e.g. Table. IX(a) and IX(b)).

​If you adapt, amend, or otherwise modify the table, indicate this at the end of your caption
