Citing and referencing: Newspapers/Magazines

A guide to the styles recommended by Monash schools and departments for students and researchers

Newspapers/Magazines

Notes:

  • Newspapers and magazines are NOT acceptable academic sources unless as objects of research.
  • Follow these examples closely for all layout, punctuation, spacing and capitalising.
  • In the Reference List the page numbers of newspaper articles must be preceded by p. or pp. If the article is printed on more than one page give all the page numbers separated by a comma.
  • In cases where a print publication publishes an 'online only' article on their website, treat it as an online article.
