Global GIS Bundle

Global GIS data bundle contains:

  • Set of 618 US military 1:500,000 scale TPCs (Tactical Pilotage Charts--scanned topographic/aeronautical maps)
  • SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) 90m DEM (Digital Elevation Model), covers the World from Latitude 57 South - 61 North
  • Landsat 7 ETM 15m 7-4-2 GeoCover 2000 (1999 - 2003) worldwide satellite imagery
  • Landsat 4/5 TM 30m 7-4-2 GeoCover 1990 (1988 - 1992) worldwide satellite imagery
  • VMAP0 worldwide 1:1,000,000 scale vector data
  • World Vector Shoreline Plus 1:250,000 scale vector data of the World's coastlines and international boundaries      


  • GIS software required; e.g. ArcGIS or MapInfo
  • Monash staff and students access via network drive:
  • Open maps and / or map layers using appropriate GIS software (e.g. use ArcGIS for .shp files, MapInfo for .TAB files). Or,
  • Open GIS software and navigate to desired file(s)
  • When required, convert files to a format compatible with your available GIS software.

Access (on campus)    


To connect, first map to a network resource:

  •   Click Start, and then click My Computer
  •   From the Tools menu, click Map Network Drive.
  •   In Drive, type or select the drive letter to map to the resource.
  •   In Folder, type: "\\gisdata".
  •   Or click Browse to locate the resource.\
  •   Check "Reconnect at login"
  •   Click Finish.


  •  In Finder, click Go => Connect to Server... (command + K)
  • Enter the server address smb://
  • Click Connect
  • Enter your Monash computer account details when prompted to connect as Registered user
  • The GIS Data server should now open automatically as one of the devices
